Valentines Special ft. Immy Churchill
Valentines Day? At a cosy bookshop? Watching live jazz? Yes please.
Immy Churchill is a jazz vocalist, singer-songwriter and lyricist recently graduated from The Royal Academy of Music. She has been described as a “rising star”, striding out in the London jazz scene and playing her own original music at venues such as The Green Note, Pizza Express Holborn and The Vortex, alongside touring Germany and Switzerland as a side person. Other venues include Ronnie Scott’s, The Crazy Coqs, The Royal Albert Hall and The Jazz Cafe. Immy Churchill looks to embrace not only the lyrical quality of being a singer but also the joys of singing wordlessly and improvising. Her influences range from Joni Mitchell and James Taylor to Ella Fitzgerald and Norma Winstone, providing her with a wide breadth of musical knowledge that sets her apart as a vocalist.
Fidelio Hot Club
Fidelio Hot Club are one of the finest gypsy jazz quartets in the UK today, bringing together four of the most sought after musicians on the London scene (Reonel Rafolls violin, Cornelius Corkery guitar, Sol Grimshaw guitar, Toby Yapp, double bass).
The group are steeped in the tradition of the great Django Reinhardt and Stephanie Grappelli, however they are far from the average band playing the regular old classics in the regular old way. As well as the authentic hot club sound of the 1930s, expect to hear compositions from the likes of Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Paizzolla, David Bowie, as well as plenty of Django Reinhardt and original compositions.
After their highly acclaimed 2024 live performance on Radio 3's 'In Tune', the group has released a debut recording as are visiting Hampton Hill as part of a UK-wide tour.
Fidelio Hot Club
The Fidelio Hot Club draws inspiration from the hot jazz of the 30s and 40s but also heavily draws upon the classical music world. Led by Ray Rafols on violin the group arranges famous classical pieces of music into the format of violin, 2 acoustic guitars and double bass. Whilst still keeping its roots in the gypsy jazz sound world.
Riffin' the Scotch
Kitty Whitelaw is a Scottish Jazz Musician based in London. Her recent musical endeavours have become more influenced by folk music, so this inspired her to create “Riffin The Scotch” (named after the 1933 Billie Holiday/Bennie Goodman tune). A musical project that has brought together her love for Jazz and Scottish folk music, with Maxine Sullivan’s 1937 recording of “Loch Lomond” as one of the main sources of inspiration.
Expect a relaxed night of blending the swing and soul of 1930s Jazz and a wee bit of iconic Scottish folk tunes.
Whether you're a fan of Jazz or Scottish folk, this performance promises to be a fantastic celebration of both genres, filled with rich, nostalgic melodies.
Kitty Whitelaw – Vocals
Magnus Pickering - Trumpet
Sol Grimshaw – Guitar
Isaac Burland – Double Bass
