Renaud Crols Trio: A Night of Gypsy Jazz at The Hum
The Hum proudly continues its tradition of hosting some of the finest Gypsy Jazz concerts in London — and has become one of the city’s leading venues for this vibrant and soulful style of music.
This time, we welcome the brilliant Belgian jazz violinist Renaud Crols, known for his passionate and lyrical playing inspired by the Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli era. Joining him are two of the UK’s finest Gypsy Jazz guitarists, Harry Diplock and Sol Grimshaw, for a creative, swinging and joyful journey through the timeless repertoire of Django & Grappelli.
Fidelio Hot Club
The Fidelio Hot Club draws inspiration from the hot jazz of the 30s and 40s but also heavily draws upon the classical music world. Led by Ray Rafols on violin the group arranges famous classical pieces of music into the format of violin, 2 acoustic guitars and double bass. Whilst still keeping its roots in the gypsy jazz sound world.
Riffin' the Scotch
Kitty Whitelaw is a Scottish Jazz Musician based in London. Her recent musical endeavours have become more influenced by folk music, so this inspired her to create “Riffin The Scotch” (named after the 1933 Billie Holiday/Bennie Goodman tune). A musical project that has brought together her love for Jazz and Scottish folk music, with Maxine Sullivan’s 1937 recording of “Loch Lomond” as one of the main sources of inspiration.
Expect a relaxed night of blending the swing and soul of 1930s Jazz and a wee bit of iconic Scottish folk tunes.
Whether you're a fan of Jazz or Scottish folk, this performance promises to be a fantastic celebration of both genres, filled with rich, nostalgic melodies.
Kitty Whitelaw – Vocals
Magnus Pickering - Trumpet
Sol Grimshaw – Guitar
Isaac Burland – Double Bass
